ABOUT ONE VILLAGE

One Village is a brand under which we are aiming at sourcing food items/handmade products directly from the marginalized farmers/crafts persons and bringing it to your doorstep.

Our objective is to provide a platform for marketing of food products, handloom, handicraft and other products manufactured by rural artisans.

Design and other input will be provided so that they meet the needs of modern urban households. Over a period of one to two years One Village should develop direct linkages between the urban consumer and marginal farmers/marginalized producer groups leading to enhanced price realization or other benefits for the producer.

At the same time these products are high quality and yet competitively priced.

Profits from the venture to be used to support the work of Atmashakti Trust details of which are below-

Atmashakti- ‘strength of the soul’ was established in 1995 with a broad mandate

to support development initiatives in rural areas and urban slums in India. Our current area of operation is Orissa (now Odisha) where we are working with over 300,000 of the most marginalized tribal, dalit and OBC families.

Odisha has a population of close to 42 million people with 22% belonging to the Scheduled Tribe (Adivasi) category and 16% classified as Scheduled Caste (Dalit). The state ranks 24th in terms of per capita income while in terms of poverty rating it is India’s poorest state. Our work is spread across 10 districts, covering over 450 gram panchayats. Much of the terrain is hilly and forested with the people residing in small habitations spread over around 5000 hamlets/villages.

Atmashakti’s mission is to enable these underprivileged families to access their entitlements from the government and help them out of extreme, grinding poverty.

Atmashakti Trust has been working since 2009, to organize and mobilize communities to collectively demand their rights under MGNREGA to augment their income. If properly implemented this act

  1. Guarantees 100 days of employment at a wage if Rs.126/- per day.
  2. Helps prevent distress migration to urban areas.
  3. Creates productive assets at the village/panchayat level.

However implementation at the ground level is extremely poor and we are working hard to bridge the between what should be and what actually is. This work is anchored by village based field workers known as jansathis who belong to the communities we work with and it is these jansathis who are leading the struggle for realizing their entitlements from the government
